Have you ever felt overwhelmed by all the different prompting techniques out there? 😵 Imagine being able to apply one simple framework to ANY situation and always get the perfect response you need. That's exactly what we'll be covering in this blog post today! 🎉

In this post, I'll introduce you to RGC Prompting and "I Want You To Act As" Prompting, two incredibly powerful frameworks you can use in virtually any situation — whether you're working on a project, learning something new, or getting creative. 🎨

Welcome to Day Tech, where we make AI accessible for everyone! If you're looking to harness the full power of AI in your daily life, you're in the right place. We break down complex AI concepts and tools into simple, easy-to-follow tutorials. 🤖

    Tip

Before we jump into General Prompt Frameworks for All Use Cases, make sure to check out our previous posts on the basics of prompt engineering, 5 simple prompting techniques, and 9 advanced prompting techniques. These foundational posts will give you the context and understanding to fully maximize today's content.

    RGC Prompting 🎯

First up, we have the RGC Prompting. This framework helps generate tailored responses by defining the AI's role, the desired result, the goal of the task, and the context or constraints. Its flexibility allows it to be used across various scenarios to produce precise, context-specific, and actionable outputs.

Role: ChatGPT's persona (eg You are a [role] expert)
Result: Desired output (eg [task or output])
Goal: Purpose of the output (eg [end goal])
Context: Who, what, where, why (eg [context or target audience])
Constraint: Limitations and guidelines (e.g., word count, tone, format, etc.)

Putting everything together, here's a general prompt template you can use in all situations:

    Personal Trainer

    1/2
    • You are an expert personal trainer. Create a 5-day workout plan for my beginner client who wants to lose weight and build muscle. The goal is to create a balanced routine with 3 days of strength training and 2 days of cardio. The plan should be simple, with clear instructions, and not require any special equipment.

    Business Coach

    2/2
    • You are an expert business coach. Create a 4-step action plan to help my client increase their sales by 25% in the next quarter. The content is for my small business client who sells handmade products. The plan should be concise, actionable, and easy to implement.

You can see from the examples that this RGC technique is an incredibly powerful and flexible framework for generating highly targeted and context-specific responses from AI. It can be applied across a wide range of contexts, from marketing and business strategies to fitness plans and nutrition guides. So try it out yourself in your next prompt! 💪

"I Want You To Act As" Prompting 🎭

Next up, the second general prompt framework is the "I want you to act as" prompting.

This framework provides a simple and flexible structure that works for any input and output. Its goal is to create a standardized format that improves ChatGPT's performance across a wide range of tasks.

    Persona

    1/6
    • "I want you to assume the role of a..." (historian, biologist, etc.) — This defines the persona for ChatGPT.

    Context

    2/6
    • "I will provide you with..." (my target audience, a specific goal, a product, etc.) — This establishes the context and the task you want ChatGPT to perform.

    Task

    3/6
    • "Your task will be to..." (create 5 emails, write a video script, summarize, etc.) — This clarifies the action you want ChatGPT to take.

    Tone/Style

    4/6
    • "In a _____ tone/style..." (upbeat, professional, tabular format) — Specify the desired tone or format for the output.

    Key Details

    5/6
    • "Key details to consider are..." (target audience, budget, etc.) — Provide all critical information to guide the response.

    Refinement

    6/6
    • "Refine the output as necessary": ("Make it more persuasive," "Highlight key points," "Present it in tabular form," etc.)

From this example of using and without using the "I want you to act as" prompt, you can see that using the prompt provides a clear structure by defining the persona ChatGPT should adopt, which helps tailor the response to specific roles or expertise.

Essentially, "I want you to act as" narrows down the scope of the response, making it more precise and relevant to your needs, whereas without it, the response could be broader and potentially less useful.
